Oral report III: Animal on 12/1

Good evening, this is Rita speaking with “Animal”.

Today, I want to talk about the animal freedom.

As you know, animal can be use for people in the world today. For example, they may be your pets for entertainment, be company when you are lonely, be test in a laboratory for people medicines or cosmetic or be sightsee in the zoo.

Most people didn’t care about animal right for freedom. But Human being always to fight for more freedom, the animal should have the freedom from people. As we read the article of Genesis of the bible- God created animals before people, so how could we not attaché importance to them.

In the last 5 years, there are over 1 hundred 25 million mice and rats, over 1 million (1,000,000) guinea pigs, over 1 hundred 25 million (125,000,000) rabbits, over 30 hundred thousand (300,000) dogs, over 1 hundred and 20 thousand (120,000) cats, and over 2 hundred thousand (200,000) non-human primates were used in the laboratory experiment.

All you see the picture I choose is the cartoon not the real animal in the laboratory. Because the real picture is very cruel. I want to share my feeling is animal are very lovely and they also have their live, they shouldn’t to be treated like that.

Another issue is about “strays”, WHO estimates dog population worldwide is 10% of human population, and 75% of dog population be regarded as ‘strays’.

So, we have to pay more care and kindness about animal freedom. There are 5 freedoms from an animal welfare group announced. There are:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst 免於飢餓與口渴
2. Freedom from discomfort 免於不適
3.Freedom from pain, injury and disease 痛傷病
4.Freedom from fear and distress 免於恐懼與焦慮
5.Freedom to express natural behavior 自然行為

What can we do to for the animal freedom? There is a 3 Rs principle be announced in 1951. The Three R's. is:
Reduction in numbers of animals. 減量
Refinement of experimental methods. 精緻
Replacement of animals with non-animal techniques. 取代

Let me summary about my report:
There are 5 hundred million animals were used in a laboratory in the last 5 years; the stray dog is 75% of dog population.
We can do the best to keep the animal freedom is the 3Rs: Reduction 、Refinement and Replacement.
